Mission Statement of Musée Josephine Baker et des Afro-descendants de Paris ENGLISH:

The Musée Josephine Baker et des Afro-Descendants de Paris is a pioneering endeavor borne out of the collaboration with the Family of Josephine Baker, aimed at establishing the inaugural museum dedicated to the iconic figure of Josephine Baker and extending its narrative to encompass the rich and diverse histories of Afro-Descendants in Paris and their significant contributions to the city and France. In Paris, there has never been an official museum dedicated to the illustrious life of Josephine Baker. As one of France's most iconic artists, a hero of the French Resistance during World War II, and a civil rights activist whose impactful life spanned eight decades, Mr. Bagley and his colleagues are dedicated to establishing the Josephine Baker Museum in Paris to pay homage to her remarkable legacy.

Moreover, the museum seeks to share the important and necessary stories of Paris's esteemed African descendants. The narratives, information, and artifacts to be showcased in this institution will highlight the history of the Afro-Diaspora in Paris preceding Josephine Baker's era and continuing to shape the city's narrative today and into the future. Our mission is to provide a space for preserving, viewing, and disseminating artifacts that bear witness to the historical heritage of Afro-Descendant stories in Paris and France.

Furthermore, the museum is committed to promoting the principles espoused by Josephine Baker, whose multifaceted life and experiences serve as inspiration for our endeavors. In addition to the collection, preservation, and sharing of educational resources, we are dedicated to ecological and environmental stewardship, promoting well-being and self-care, fostering intergenerational connectivity, nurturing entrepreneurship, fostering solidarity and generosity, advocating activism, providing education in various fields including science and technology, and celebrating the arts and the art of compassion, understanding, and empathy.

The museum will serve as a place for learning, understanding history, and celebrating the joy and importance of community building. As an artist and historian, I, Brian Scott Bagley, am humbled to be part of this initiative, continuing the legacy of Josephine Baker, the music hall star who herself established a museum dedicated to her life's journey.

Musée Joséphine Baker et des Afro-Descendants de Paris est une association loi 1901, créée le 12 novembre 2021. Numéro RNA : W751262786.
